Our task is to build an administrative system that will meet the standards of the European Union

Oleksandr Korniienko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Co-Chairman of the Interagency Group, took part in the founding meeting of the Interagency Working Group on Improving Legislative Work, Assessing Legislative Impact and Improving the Results of Laws Implementation.

The meeting was joined by representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, in particular, Oleh Nemchinov, the Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and Co-Chairman of the Interagency Group, as well as the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and representatives of a number of NGOs.

The main issues discussed at the meeting included strengthening the Parliament’s oversight function and effective interaction between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, not only at the political level. “Our task is to build an administrative system that will meet the standards of the European Union,” said Oleksandr Korniienko.

“We are aware that these are necessary steps, in particular in the context of Ukraine’s accession to the EU,” he said, adding that the annual report on EU enlargement is the main guide for Ukraine in this regard.

The participants of the meeting also emphasised the active work on the topic of post-legislative support and control. The First Vice-Speaker noted that this should not be just a one-off and ad hoc exercise.

They also discussed practical steps to achieve this goal, including specific next steps. “For its part, the Parliament is ready to do everything necessary and continue the dialogue,” said Oleksandr Korniienko.

In addition, he noted that interaction with the public and the perception of the decisions and steps taken by the state are very important: “The most important thing is feedback. Therefore, I am very grateful for the presence of representatives of the public sector.”

In conclusion, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to all the participants of the meeting for the substantive conversation and involvement in the process.
