Mexico condemns russian aggression and supports territorial integrity of Ukraine
In the framework of her official visit to Mexico, the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk met with the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico Carmen Morena Toscano.
The parties discussed the values common to both countries: adherence to the UN Charter, equality of all countries and nations under international law, inviolability of state borders, and the fight against modern imperialism.
“On behalf of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, I thanked Mexico for its clear and consistent position of condemning russian armed aggression within the framework of UN General Assembly resolutions. We are truly united in understanding that russia’s gross violation of the UN Charter and the basic principles of international law is unacceptable,” said Olena Kondratiuk.
According to her, it is very important that more and more democratic countries of the Global South join the Ukrainian Peace Formula. “We want to see Mexico among the regional leaders of Latin America in the implementation of the Formula as the only way to achieve peace,” stressed Olena Kondratiuk.
At the same time, the acting Mexican Foreign Minister assured that a representative of Mexico will attend the meeting of security advisers to be held in Malta in a few days, where the Peace Formula will be discussed.
Carmen Morena Toscano also stressed that Mexico condemns russian aggression against Ukraine and respects the territorial integrity of our country. “Mexico has consistently demonstrated this position at all international platforms since 2014,” she said.
During the meeting, the Vice-Speaker Olena Kondratiuk also informed about the main objectives of the visit of the Ukrainian parliamentary delegation to Mexico.
“My mission is to tell the Mexican politicians and society the truth about what is happening in Ukraine because of the russian aggression. We have the largest humanitarian catastrophe since the Second World War, 20% of the territory is occupied by russia. The occupied territory is the same size as Guatemala or Cuba. Another 174,000 square kilometres of territory is mined, the size of the whole of Uruguay. More than 6 million Ukrainians, mostly women and children, are forced to go abroad,” said Olena Kondratiuk.
The Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also appealed to the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico to consider the issue of officially recognising russia as a terrorist state. According to her, it is also necessary to close russian channels that broadcast kremlin propaganda in Mexico.
“We are counting on Mexico’s active position in uniting international efforts to return almost 20,000 children abducted by russia to Ukraine. We appeal to the Government of Mexico to provide assistance in the rehabilitation of our children and wounded soldiers,” said Olena Kondratiuk.
The Vice-Speaker called on the Mexican side to take an active part in the reconstruction of Ukraine and the implementation of investment projects.
