Ukraine has received an invitation to become an observer of the Parliamentary Assembly of Сommunity of Portuguese-speaking Countries

This was announced by the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko following a meeting with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries, Dr Teresa Efua Asangono, in the framework of the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The Сommunity of Portuguese-speaking Countries has nine member states: Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Sao Tome and Principe, East Timor, and Equatorial Guinea.

“Our state is interested in establishing cooperation with the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries, in particular, in the economic, social and cultural spheres with the member states of the organisation, based on respect for the principles of the UN Charter,” said Oleksandr Korniienko.

He also stressed that Ukraine is seeking to obtain associate observer status in the organisation and is ready to take the necessary practical steps to do so.

The parties also discussed food security and the situation with Ukrainian grain exports. “russia is systematically impeding the normal functioning of the Black Sea Grain Initiative and attacking Ukrainian ports,” the First Vice Speaker stressed, adding that despite the shutdown of the grain corridor by the russian federation, Ukraine will continue to feed the world and increase exports.

In conclusion, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed that both sides are moving in the right direction to strengthen bilateral relations.

For reference. On 23-27 October, a Ukrainian delegation headed by the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko is paying a working visit to the Republic of Angola.

The programme of the visit includes participation of the delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in the Angolan capital Luanda.

The parliamentary delegation also includes: the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation Oleksandr Merezhko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Youth and Sports Zhan Beleniuk, the Member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management Lesia Vasylenko, the Member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation Olha Rudenko, the Member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Anti-Corruption Policy Oleksii Zhmerenetskyi, the Member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy Oleksandr Sanchenko, and Dmytro Shpenov, the Member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legal Policy.
