The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the newly elected President of the NATO PA Michal Szczerba

First of all, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed that he appreciates the level of support from the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. He also expressed confidence that under the presidency of the newly elected Michal Szczerba, this level will only grow.

“Our goal is to achieve maximum progress and receive an invitation to join NATO at the Summit, where the Alliance will celebrate its 75th anniversary,” said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, noting that the support of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly is important for Ukraine.

He also noted that he counts on the leadership of the NATO PA in building a consensus among the Allies on the invitation to Ukraine. “An important signal would be the adoption of a resolution by the NATO PA calling on the governments of NATO member states to invite Ukraine to join the Alliance,” stressed Ruslan Stefanchuk.

The parties also discussed further support for Ukraine. The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine appealed to the NATO PA President Michal Szczerba to call on Allied governments to contribute to the NATO Trust Fund as part of the Comprehensive Assistance Package.

“The transition to a Western weapons system remains a priority for us. We are eager to fully synchronise with NATO in this regard,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed.

The parties also discussed the implementation of the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and the return of Ukrainian children illegally deported by russia.

In conclusion, Ruslan Stefanchuk appealed to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly to adopt a decision to recognise the Holodomor of 1932-33 as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
