The First Vice Speaker Oleksandr Korniienko met with the Head of the Council of Europe Office Maciej Janczak

The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held a working meeting with the Head of the Council of Europe Office Maciej Janczak.

First of all, the First Deputy Speaker congratulated Maciej Janczak on his appointment, expressing confidence that the experience of multilateral diplomacy of the newly appointed Head will be a significant help and support to Ukraine on the path of reforms in the field of human rights protection, rule of law and development of a democratic society, as well as overcoming the terrible consequences of russia’s military aggression against Ukraine.

“We expect that the role of the Council of Europe institutions, in particular, its Office in Kyiv, will be strengthened in responding to human rights violations caused by the russian aggression against Ukraine and in bringing to justice all those responsible for violations of international law,” said the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

In conclusion, Oleksandr Korniienko expressed his gratitude for the support and all the joint steps taken for the sake of Ukraine. “We are ready to make every effort to strengthen Ukraine’s practical cooperation with the Council of Europe and, above all, with the Office in Ukraine.”

The meeting was also attended by members of the Ukrainian parliament – Andrii Zadorozhnyi, the Chairman of the Committee on Human Rights, De-occupation and Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, National Minorities and International Relations, Mariia Mezentseva, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the European Union, and Vitalii Bezhin, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Administrative and Territorial Structure of the Committee on State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning.
