The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk held a videoconference with the President of the Congress of Deputies of Spain Francina Armengol
The parties discussed a number of important issues, in particular, the continuation of military assistance to Ukraine, the implementation of the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, as well as Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
First of all, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine expressed gratitude to Spain for its firm and consistent support of Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale invasion of russia and congratulated the President of the Spanish Congress of Deputies, Francina Armengol, on her election.
“The Ukrainian Parliament is interested in further development and strengthening of the interparliamentary dialogue with Spain,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk.
He also thanked Spain for its military assistance, as it helps to strengthen the defence capabilities of the Security and Defence Forces of Ukraine. At the same time, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine informed his Spanish counterpart about the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, especially in the area of air defence systems.
In addition, during the videoconference meeting, Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s Peace Formula is the only realistic and comprehensive plan to restore Ukraine’s territorial integrity. “I expect and hope that Spain will become a co-leader in the implementation of one of the points of the Formula, in particular, Food Security,” he added.
“Ukraine is actively moving towards completing the implementation of the seven recommendations of the European Commission – we expect further positive recommendations,” the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine stressed, adding that at the same time, Ukraine is waiting for the European Council to make a decision in December to start negotiations on joining the European Union.
“The NATO Summit clearly confirmed that Ukraine’s accession to NATO is only a matter of time. And moscow cannot prevent Ukraine’s integration into the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk, noting that Ukraine is counting on Spain’s active involvement in building consensus on inviting Ukraine to the Summit in Washington.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine expressed hope that the current composition of the Congress of Deputies of Spain will be able to adopt a resolution on the recognition of russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.
In conclusion, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called on the Spanish Parliament to recognise the Holodomor of 1932-33 as genocide of the Ukrainian people: “This decision is important for the restoration of historical justice in relation to one of the largest crimes in history.”
