The First Vice Speaker Oleksandr Korniienko met with the delegation of the Parliament of Georgia

The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held a working meeting with the delegation of the Parliament of Georgia – the MPs Davit Khajishvili and Levan Bezhashvili and the Secretary General of the United National Movement party Petre Tsiskarishvili.

The parties discussed, in particular, the illegal imprisonment of Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili. “The russian federation is killing the third President of Georgia right now with the hands of the Georgian authorities. This is unacceptable. European states are also concerned about the situation,” said Oleksandr Korniienko, stressing that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a resolution on the Appeal on the need to implement a humanitarian act of pardon or transfer Mikheil Saakashvili for treatment abroad.

“We will fight for each and every one of our citizens, no matter where they are. Life is a basic European value. We call on all partners to save the man,” said the First Vice Speaker.

At the same time, the participants of the meeting informed each other about the European integration path of each country. Oleksandr Korniienko informed his colleagues about the work on the issue of national communities – increasing opportunities and access for them, and stressed the need for tough sanctions against the terrorist state.

“There is no doubt that the world must move towards justice together. And we must not give the enemy any chance to implement its criminal ideas,” Oleksandr Korniienko concluded.

The meeting was also joined by members of the Ukrainian parliament: Oleksandr Merezhko, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation, and Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the European Union, Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Group on Interparliamentary Relations with Georgia.
