The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk took part in the Third Summit of the International Crimean Platform

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk joined the Third Summit of the International Crimean Platform.

“Just like a year ago, and unfortunately, today the Summit is taking place in special conditions, in the context of russia’s full-scale military invasion of Ukraine,” the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine stressed, noting that interaction at the level of parliaments can strengthen the activities of the newly created format: “And the result of the first inaugural Summit with the participation of heads of state and government in August 2021 encouraged us to take practical steps.”

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine thanked for the fact that the initiative of the Ukrainian Parliament found support among the heads of parliaments of foreign countries, and last year the First Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform was held. This year, the Second Parliamentary Summit will be held in the Czech Republic at the end of October. Ruslan Stefanchuk also expressed his belief that the summit in Prague will be an effective continuation of today’s meeting so that the parliamentary segment can be involved in the formation of a strong alliance of democratic states in the world.

He also noted that the consequences of the ongoing aggression of the russian federation are felt throughout the world: “Challenges and threats require a fundamental change in approaches to strengthening the security architecture.”

In particular, in his speech, Ruslan Stefanchuk focused on certain elements that are important for the restoration of the security architecture of Europe and the world. First and foremost, the full restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders, the borders of 1991.

“The military and political leadership of the russian federation must be punished for the war crimes committed on the territory of Ukraine and crimes of aggression against Ukraine,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed.

At the same time, he noted that blackmail and the possibility of creating threats in the field of energy and nuclear security are unacceptable: “Therefore, the security architecture should include an algorithm of measures to counteract them.”

“The transformation of the security environment will help preserve sovereignty and territorial integrity, increase the security of state borders,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine noted that Ukraine’s membership in NATO is an investment in strengthening the European security architecture. He also added that the leaders of a dozen countries joined the Summit, calling for not postponing strategically important decisions until tomorrow: “Because today we are laying a solid security foundation for the future.”

“Today, Ukraine celebrates a very important holiday of the Ukrainian Flag, which is soaked in the sweat and blood of our defenders, the Flag of Ukraine pierced by enemy bullets, the Ukrainian Flag that covers the coffins of our best sons and daughters who gave their lives for the future of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Flag that we present today as the best gift to our dearest guests. The Ukrainian Flag, which today flies for the first time in the liberated territories. Let’s hold the next Fourth Summit of the Crimean Platform under the Ukrainian Flag in the liberated Crimea,” Ruslan Stefanchuk concluded.
