Ukraine needs help from partners and experts to ensure the victory of world order and international law
“Ukrainians want to see russia held accountable for all the crimes committed and lives destroyed. The world must unite around the idea of justice – to create a special tribunal,” said Oleksandr Korniienko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, while moderating a panel on the political significance of the tribunal at the International Conference “Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. Justice to be done”.
The First Vice-Speaker noted that the special tribunal is an instrument of responsibility envisaged by the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi: “This is the path to global security, peace and an end to terror.”
“It is important to reach a political consensus – this is one of the foundations for the implementation of the tribunal,” Oleksandr Korniienko said, adding that ultimately, its creation will be a political decision.
In addition, he stressed that everyone should fulfil their tasks on this path: “We have to work, in particular, together with international partners and other countries.”
“The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is ready to do everything to increase attention to the issue of establishing a special tribunal on all available platforms, including legislative ones,” the First Vice Speaker stressed.
He also noted that, as the Head of the Presidential Office Andrii Yermak emphasised in his address, the perpetrators of war crimes against Ukraine include both the perpetrators and those who committed the fundamental crime of aggression. “For the victory of the world order and international law, our country needs the help of partners and experts,” said Oleksandr Korniienko.
“russia has no right to impunity and everyone must be held accountable! It is only in our power to establish the justice that millions of people in Ukraine are waiting for,” the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine said in conclusion.
The members of the Ukrainian Parliament also joined the event: Denys Maslov, the Chairman of the Committee on Legal Policy, and Mariia Mezentseva, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the European Union.
For reference. The event was organised with the participation of the Office of the President of Ukraine and the Office of the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration.
