Parliament is striving to adopt all amendments so that this autumn the EU will say “yes” to negotiations on our full membership

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk took part in a meeting of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine, which took place today in Ivano-Frankivsk.

The Congress was chaired by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and attended by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, MPs of Ukraine, government officials, and representatives of local self-government.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament stressed that each meeting of the Congress is “a unique opportunity, a platform for us to discuss the most important issues, adjust plans, reassess the challenges facing the country, and synchronise the efforts of all branches of government”.

Among the main issues on the agenda was the implementation of the roadmap for Ukraine’s accession to the EU.

Therefore, in his speech, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine reported on the results of the work of the country’s legislative body on European integration and stressed that a significant part of the tasks had already been completed.

In particular, according to Ruslan Stefanchuk, the Ukrainian Parliament, in line with the recommendations of the European Commission on judicial reform, has improved the procedure for selecting judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, ensured the formation and unblocked the work of the High Council of Justice and the High Qualification Commission of Judges.

In addition, the legislation on audiovisual media services was improved, progress was made in the implementation of FATF standards, and steps were taken to restore e-declarations. The Parliament of Ukraine has also adopted the Law on National Minorities and is currently working to improve it, in line with the conclusions of the Venice Commission.

“The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is striving and preparing to adopt all the changes so that this autumn the European Union and the relevant institutions will successfully assess Ukraine’s implementation of the recommendations and say ‘yes’ to negotiations on our full membership,” the Chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine said in his speech.
