Denys Shmyhal met with Prime Minister of Qatar

Оn July 28, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani in Kyiv. This is the first visit of the Prime Minister of Qatar since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

"We appreciate that you are visiting Kyiv these days, when russia continues to wage a neocolonial war against Ukraine. Your visit at such a difficult time for the Ukrainian people is an important message and evidence of your country's solidarity and support for Ukraine," said Denys Shmyhal.

The parties emphasized the importance of resuming the work of the Black Sea Grain Initiative and the need to continue implementing the Grain from Ukraine Initiative.

Denys Shmyhal emphasized that by withdrawing from the Black Sea Grain Initiative, russia had jeopardized the lives of millions of people around the world, primarily in Africa and Asia.

"The quitting of the grain deal, war crimes and crimes against humanity, genocide by russia require an immediate and decisive response from the international community," the Head of the Ukrainian Government said.

The Prime Ministers of the two states also discussed in detail the Peace Formula initiated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In particular, they exchanged views on the implementation of specific steps of this formula in such areas as Food Security, Energy Security and the Release of Prisoners and Deportees.

Denys Shmyhal thanked Qatar for its willingness to undertake mediation efforts to return Ukrainian children illegally taken by russia and still held on its territory.

Among other issues, the Prime Minister of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Qatar discussed the Plan for the reconstruction of our country. Denys Shmyhal expressed his gratitude for providing Ukraine with USD 100 million in humanitarian support. This money will be used to restore healthcare, education, humanitarian demining and other important social and humanitarian projects.

Separately, the Head of Government of Ukraine mentioned the allocation of 50 special scholarships for Ukrainians to study at Qatar University.

The Prime Ministers also agreed to cooperate closely within the framework of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation. They also agreed to set up other specialized working groups and commissions to work out issues in various areas, from high technology and digitalization to the supply of drinking water in those regions of Ukraine where it is needed.
