The power of parliamentary democracies is the most powerful weapon against captivity

This was stated by the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko during a regular meeting with the President of the Jean Monnet Foundation and former President of the European Parliament Pat Cox.

The main topic of the conversation was the strengthening of the institutional capacity of the Ukrainian Parliament using progressive European practices and instruments. In particular, the interlocutors discussed the priority issues of parliamentary reform and the results of the eighth Jean Monnet Dialogues, as well as potential topics for their ninth round.

“Our constant and active participation in this format of meetings is a confirmation of our resolute advancement of the institutional reform of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Despite all the challenges, we continue to work on building Ukrainian parliamentarism on the principles of democracy and openness. The power of parliamentary democracies is the most powerful weapon against captivity,” Oleksandr Korniienko said during the meeting.

He also stressed that the Parliament of Ukraine highly appreciates the unique partnership with the European Parliament and looks forward to further cooperation in important issues of developing the institutional capacity of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in line with the best European practices of parliamentarism.
