The First Vice-Speaker met with Deputy Lord Speaker of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom

In the framework of a working visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko met with the Deputy Lord Speaker of the House of Lords, Baron John Gardiner.

First of all, the First Vice Speaker expressed his gratitude for the military assistance to Ukraine and the multi-party support of the UK Parliament. “We appreciate everything the UK has done, is doing and will do. From the point of view of our interparliamentary cooperation, we are grateful for all the initiatives created in both chambers,” he stressed.

Oleksandr Korniienko informed his colleague about the reforms implemented in Ukraine, in particular, the appointment by the High Council of Justice of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine and the reform of the civil service in Ukraine, which has been ongoing since 2016 and is supported by the European Union.

“A modern, flexible civil service corps will be necessary for our future status,” said the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, adding that parliamentary employees are a crucial part of the civil service: “We are working on special regulation with a higher level of social conditions and better social guarantees.” He also said that work is underway on a special mechanism to attract young professionals for internships.

“After winning the war, we need to win peace. We want a better future and we have principles for reconstruction,” Oleksandr Korniienko concluded.
