The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine held a videoconference with the Speaker of the Senate of Canada

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, held a videoconference with the Speaker of the Senate of Canada, Raymonde Gagne.

The parties discussed Ukraine’s path to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and continued defence support for Ukraine.

The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine expressed gratitude to Canada for an additional package of financial assistance in the amount of 2.4 billion Canadian dollars. He also thanked for the new military assistance package of CAD 500 million announced during Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s visit to Kyiv.

“At the Summit in Vilnius, Ukraine wants to hear a clear understanding of the timeframe for membership and security guarantees for the interim period,” Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed, thanking Canada for its clear and consistent position on Ukraine’s inevitable membership in NATO.

 In conclusion, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed hope for Canada’s support in reaching a consensus on Ukraine’s membership.
