Denys Shmyhal and James Cleverly discuss military cooperation, recovery and prospects for Euro-Atlantic integration

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with James Cleverly, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, in Kyiv.

The parties focused on the issues of armed support for Ukraine, its recovery and integration into NATO.

Denys Shmyhal thanked James Cleverly for the UK's leadership in creating a "coalition of fighter jets" and for his willingness to train Ukrainian pilots.

"Today, the training of our pilots is on the agenda, the first groups have already been selected to train in the UK. On the battlefield, the Ukrainian armed forces are being reformatted to NATO standards. Therefore, during the NATO summit, Ukraine should hear specific messages about our future in the Alliance. This is important for Ukrainian society and for our army," the Head of Government stressed.

Denys Shmyhal also expressed his gratitude to the UK for its unconditional, unwavering support for Ukraine in all areas - from military sphere to sanctions policy and financial support.

The Head of Government called on the partners to strengthen sanctions against russia, in particular on the export of dual-use goods, which will weaken the russian military machine. Denys Shmyhal also expressed hope that a compensation mechanism would be developed quickly. As a result, russia will have to pay for everything that has been destroyed.

The participants of the meeting also discussed the issue of reconstruction. The Prime Minister of Ukraine welcomed the UK's involvement in the rapid recovery, including six bridges in Kyiv region and the use of UKEF tools.

"Ukraine expects practical results from the recovery conference in London on June 21-22. First of all, to attract resources for reconstruction," said Denys Shmyhal.

For his part, James Cleverly noted that the UK would continue to support Ukraine and Ukrainians in various areas, as well as help in the recovery process.
