The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine met with the Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine met with the Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Rosie Winterton, in the framework of the NATO Summit of the Heads of Parliaments.

First of all, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine stressed that he appreciated the multi-party support of the UK Parliament. He expressed gratitude to the UK for its comprehensive assistance to Ukraine in the most difficult time when the Ukrainian people are resisting russian aggression, in particular, for the recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people by the House of Commons.

The parties also discussed Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic future: “The support of the United Kingdom is extremely important for us. I count on the UK’s leadership in the issue of Ukraine’s membership in NATO.”

“To liberate all the occupied territories, we need more weapons,” Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasised, noting the importance of continuing to provide defence assistance.

The parties also paid attention to the issue of sanctions pressure against the russian federation, as russia is trying to circumvent the sanctions already imposed: “The common task is to prevent russia from taking advantage of such gaps.”

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called for support for the implementation of President Zelenskyi’s peace formula: “This formula is a guideline for how Ukraine sees peace. The main thing will be not just the end of the war, but also the reconstruction of Ukraine.”

“The United Kingdom has made every effort to be among the leaders in supporting Ukraine,” said Rosie Winterton, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. She also assured of the UK’s support for Ukraine’s path to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.
