The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine met with the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Slovenia
In the framework of his work at the NATO Parliamentary Summit, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Slovenia Urska Klakocar Zupancic.
First of all, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine expressed gratitude for the recent recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people by the Parliament of Slovenia. “Such decisions demonstrate that parliaments are clearly aware that there is a very close historical connection between what russia is doing today and what it did 90 years ago,” he said, adding that it is precisely because this evil was not punished 90 years ago that it has returned today.
“Ukraine is holding on, standing, and putting up a fierce resistance to the russian federation. An army that is many times bigger than the Ukrainian army,” Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed, expressing gratitude to Slovenia for the military assistance provided, as well as for its readiness to join a number of humanitarian demining projects.
In addition, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada thanked Slovenia for its willingness to join the reconstruction of Kharkiv region, in particular, the city of Izium. At the same time, Ruslan Stefanchuk called on Slovenia to join the implementation of the peace formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi by taking patronage of one of its points.
He also appealed to the Slovenian Parliament to consider adopting a statement of support for Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic path, as the parliaments of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland and the Czech Republic have already done.
“Slovenia unconditionally supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine and will continue to provide all necessary assistance,” said Urska Klakocar Zupancic, the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Slovenia. She also stressed that the Republic of Slovenia will always strive to ensure that international law works against acts of aggression.
