Denys Shmyhal and President of Estonia Alar Karis discuss restoration, military and sanctions cooperation
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with President of Estonia Alar Karis.
The parties discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries. They focused on the reconstruction projects implemented by Estonia. One example is the opening of a kindergarten in Ovruch, Zhytomyr region.
The Prime Minister noted Estonia’s contribution to the military strengthening of Ukraine.
“Estonia was one of the first countries to provide us with defence assistance. Today, it is a leader in terms of military assistance per capita. We are grateful for the initiative of joint direct procurement of weapons, in particular, artillery ammunition. For the training of the Ukrainian military, for the transfer of the third mobile military hospital jointly with Norway and the Netherlands,” Denys Shmyhal stressed.
The Head of Ukrainian Government and the President of Estonia coordinated support for Ukraine on its path to the EU and NATO, the establishment of a special tribunal against the russian leadership and the strengthening of sanctions against russia.
“Estonia is actively involved in bringing russia to justice for the crime of aggression and war crimes. We are grateful for the support of the idea of the special tribunal and the work of the International Criminal Court. For participating in the creation of the Register of Damages as a first step towards the international reparations mechanism. I am grateful to Estonia for its leadership in developing a national mechanism for the confiscation of existing russian assets to be used for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine,” said Denys Shmyhal.
The Prime Minister also stressed that sanctions against the aggressor must be strong enough to stop the russian military machine.
“I am grateful to Estonia for its unwavering support to our country in this terrible war. We feel not only the shoulder of a partner, but also the friendship between our countries and peoples,” concluded Denys Shmyhal.
