The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine met with the President of Poland

During his official visit to the Republic of Poland, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the President of Poland Andrzej Duda.

The parties discussed a number of important issues, including the continuation and acceleration of military assistance, support for Ukraine on its path to membership in the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, and the reconstruction of Ukraine.

First of all, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to Poland for all the assistance provided, training of our military and the agreement to train Ukrainian pilots.

“For Ukraine, the No. 1 issue is to continue and accelerate military assistance from Poland and through Poland,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk. He also noted that the agreement to train Ukrainian pilots “is the first step, which should be followed by the next one”, expressing hope that Poland will join the flight coalition.

“The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has fulfilled all the recommendations of the European Commission and adopted all the necessary legislation – we look forward to a positive assessment by the European institutions,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed, adding that it is important for Ukraine to start negotiations on full membership in the European Union this year.

“The Ukrainian army is de facto a NATO army, as Ukrainian defenders are fighting according to NATO standards, with NATO weapons and performing the main mission of defending the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation countries from the russian federation’s attack,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk. He emphasised that at the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius, Ukraine wants to hear the Alliance’s common vision of Ukraine’s accession modalities.

“It is very important not just to win on the battlefield, but to have peace. For us, the issue of a just peace is very important,” said the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine, expressing gratitude to Poland for supporting the peace formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi. He added that an important component of a just peace is the return of all Ukrainian children illegally deported to russia, as well as the payment of reparations to Ukraine by the aggressor.

The parties also discussed the process of rebuilding Ukraine.

“The rebuilding of Ukraine should become a success story for the entire civilised world,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk. He said that Poland and Ukraine have already signed a separate memorandum of cooperation in the field of reconstruction: “Together we will rebuild Ukraine and make it even stronger and more modern.”
