The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway

During his official visit to the Kingdom of Norway, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway Anniken Scharning Huitfeldt.

The parties discussed a number of important issues, including Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic future, defence support and the recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people.

“The summit in Vilnius in July this year could be crucial for both Ukraine and the entire Euro-Atlantic community,” the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine stressed.

He noted that Ukraine calls on Allies to consider realistic options for Ukraine’s accession to NATO. “It is important for us to formulate and hear the modalities and a clear definition of the timeframe for joining the Alliance,” added Ruslan Stefanchuk.

In addition, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed that Ukraine needs further supplies of weapons to protect Ukrainians and liberate its territories: “First of all, it is combat aircraft and tanks, long-range missiles, modern air defence and missile defence systems, artillery and ammunition.” He noted that Ukraine would be grateful to the Kingdom of Norway for further deliveries of NASAMS to Ukraine.

In conclusion, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called on the Norwegian Storting to recognise the Holodomor of 1932-33 as the Genocide of the Ukrainian people.
