Azerbaijan supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and provides substantial humanitarian aid

During her official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk met with the Vice Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic Adil Abish oglu Aliyev. The Vice-Speaker thanked Azerbaijan for supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and providing ongoing humanitarian assistance.

“The Government of Azerbaijan and representatives of local business, together with public and Ukrainian diaspora organisations, have sent over 2000 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Ukraine. In particular, medicines and medical equipment, food, military ammunition.

Support with electrical equipment was very important. These are dozens of high-capacity transformers and generators that helped Ukraine to survive the blackouts,” said Olena Kondratiuk.

She also expressed special gratitude to the Republic of Azerbaijan for organising the rehabilitation of 87 Ukrainian children in 2022.

During the meeting, Olena Kondratiuk also stressed that Ukraine supports and respects the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and is interested in further developing economic cooperation.

At the same time, the Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine asked Mr Vice-Speaker to make an official statement from the Azerbaijani Parliament in support of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as the need to return home illegally deported Ukrainian children.

Adil Aliyev, for his part, stressed that Azerbaijan has felt the support of Ukraine for three decades of the war for its territorial integrity and assured his Ukrainian counterpart that his country supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The two sides also discussed the challenges that Ukraine and Azerbaijan face in rebuilding cities and demining territories. According to the Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis, last year alone, Azerbaijan spent more than four billion dollars on the restoration and construction of new cities. At the same time, demining is still ongoing in the country and this process will continue for many years.
Olena Kondratiuk also said that Ukraine currently has 200,000 square kilometres of mined areas, and the infrastructure damage caused by russian aggression in Ukraine reaches $175 billion.

“Therefore, we will need the help of all our friends and partners in the post-war reconstruction and demining. We are counting on Azerbaijan’s active participation and experience in these processes,” the Vice Speaker concluded.
