The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk together with the First Vice-Speaker Oleksandr Korniienko met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.
Ruslan Stefanchuk noted that this meeting is a continuation of the fruitful cooperation between our countries and, in particular, expressed regret that it takes place while the attacks of russian bombs and russian troops are destroying our cities and infrastructure, killing civilians.
Therefore, the first thing the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament emphasized during the meeting was the threat of Russian-Iranian military and political rapprochement.
“I want to thank Bahrain for being on the side of supporting Ukraine. You certainly know that Iran is an ally of the russian federation, so we need coordinated measures to contain this “axis of evil,” Ruslan Stefanchuk urged.
The first such step, he said, is the sanctions regime against russia, which Bahrain’s accession to “will demonstrate a common desire to restore peace and security in the world.”
In addition, the Chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine thanked the Kingdom for supporting the UN General Assembly resolution, which actually implemented the peace formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, and called on it to join the countries that will take certain points of the peace initiative under its patronage.
The parties also discussed further possible steps by Bahrain to assist Ukraine, in particular in the humanitarian, financial, defense, and post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
The Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament also conveyed his sincere gratitude for the inter-parliamentary dialogue to the Speaker of the Parliament of the Kingdom and invited him to take part in the Second Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform in October in Prague.
“I am convinced that your visit can become another very important impetus for our further cooperation, in particular, we hope to get a reliable ally and ambassador of Ukraine throughout the Global South in your person,” Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasized in conclusion.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani assured his Ukrainian counterpart that the Kingdom has been making every effort to convey to the diplomatic Islamic community the importance of ending this war since the first day of the war.
“Bahrain believes in peace, but the road to peace is paved with obstacles. We also believe in mutual respect, in coexistence and dialogue. We believe in the importance of upholding the principles of the UN Charter and international law. And it is from this position that Bahrain has repeatedly supported a number of UN General Assembly resolutions related to the Ukrainian issue,” the guest said.
He also noted that the Kingdom appreciates all peaceful diplomatic efforts and initiatives aimed at ending the war. According to the official, they deserve to be studied in order to unite and create a generalized universal initiative that would contribute to a political settlement of the war.
“I want to say once again that this visit is a visit of your friend. The relations that exist between our countries are a matter of our pride and respect. We believe that the peace that will come to Ukraine will be freedom for new generations. After all, the Ukrainian nation is the nation of the future, which many will look up to. We hope that the end of the war in Ukraine will also end the wars in other parts of the world,” Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani emphasized.
