Prime Minister of Ukraine met with President of Italy

Рrime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and President of the Republic of Italy Sergio Mattarella discussed topical areas of cooperation, including in the financial, defence and sanctions spheres.

The meeting, which took place in Rome on April 26 as part of a working visit by the Government team to Italy, was also attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba.

“I am grateful to Italy for the military and technical assistance it provides to Ukraine’s security and defence forces, in particular for the sixth aid package, which includes vital air defence systems. I hope that the SAMP/T system will arrive in Ukraine as soon as possible and will defend the Ukrainian skies,” said Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed that along with efforts to ensure fast and stable supplies of all necessary weapons and ammunition from Ukraine’s partners, the Government was also focused on implementing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula.

“This initiative represents our vision of the necessary steps to ensure a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace in Ukraine and security for the whole world,” said the Head of Ukrainian Government, thanking the Italian side for its willingness to participate in the implementation of the Peace Formula.

The parties also touched upon the issue of sanctions against the russian nuclear industry and the implementation of the Grain from Ukraine initiative.

Denys Shmyhal thanked Italy for supporting Ukraine’s European aspirations and expressed hope that Italy would also support Ukraine’s accession to NATO.

For his part, Italian President Sergio Mattarella assured that his country would continue to support Ukraine as long as necessary.
