Prime Minister of Ukraine met with Pope Francis at the Vatican

Аs part of a working visit to the Republic of Italy, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal had an audience with His Holiness Pope Francis at the Vatican.

The Head of Ukrainian Government told the Pontiff about how Ukrainians were forced to fight for their lives every day in the war unleashed by russia. He also praised the Holy See’s efforts to end the war and stressed that Ukraine considered the formula of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to be the best way to peace.

Denys Shmyhal expressed the hope that the Vatican would participate in the implementation of the formula, in particular in the process of returning prisoners and deportees, restoring justice and fixing the end of the war.

In addition, the Prime Minister handed over to Pope Francis a photo album of russia’s crimes in Bucha, Borodyanka and other cities of Ukraine. This album clearly shows the hatred and cruelty of the aggressor, which it brought to Ukrainian lands.

Denys Shmyhal thanked His Holiness for the humanitarian aid and for the treatment of Ukrainian children affected by russian aggression in the Vatican hospital. He also expressed his expectation that the Holy See would use its influence to bring peace to all Ukrainian lands.

The Ukrainian Prime Minister concluded by inviting Pope Francis to visit Ukraine personally.

At the Vatican, the Prime Minister of Ukraine also met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See.
