The First Vice-Speaker Oleksandr Korniienko met with the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine

 “I am pleased to personally welcome the decision of the European Union to continue supporting Ukraine in promoting public administration reform within the framework of the second phase of the EU4PAR 2 Project,” said the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko during a meeting with a delegation from the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine.

The parties discussed specific steps and actions within the framework of the Project’s work plan.

First of all, the First Vice-Speaker noted that public administration reform is strategic for Ukraine, and it is one of the foundations of the country’s European integration track. “At the stage of post-war reconstruction, we must make efforts in all areas to return Ukrainian democracy to the de-occupied territories, and a high-quality responsible governance that will meet the needs of the people as well,” he said.

Oleksandr Korniienko added that to achieve this, it is important to continue the reform of the civil service and local government, to carry out structural reforms of institutions and digitalisation. “At the same time, it is important to raise the prestige of public service and expand approaches to finding the right personnel,” said the First Vice Speaker, stressing that the reform of fair remuneration for civil servants remains an important area.

In conclusion, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to the partners for the first phase of the EU4PAR Project, which has brought great results in public administration reform: “We are working on the second phase – we are moving forward”.

The meeting was also attended by members of the Ukrainian Parliament: Olena Shuliak, the Chairperson of the Committee on State Building, Local Governance, Regional Development and Urban Planning; Vitalii Bezhin, the Chairperson of the Subcommittee on Administrative and Territorial Structure of the Committee on State Building, Local Governance, Regional Development and Urban Planning; Pavlo Frolov, the Co-Chairman of the Inter-Factional Deputy Association “For Effective Public (Civil) Service and Implementation of EU and OECD Standards”, and Larysa Bilozir, the Chairperson of the Subcommittee on Administrative Services and Administrative Procedures of the Committee on Organisation of State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning.
