The Chairperson of the Ukrainian Parliament met with the Head of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Vladimir Orlic. The speakers of the parliaments talked within the framework of the Conference of the Presidents of the EU Member States, which is currently taking place in Prague.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed that such a meeting is a significant step towards strengthening and deepening cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries. He also noted that it is important for Ukraine to have Serbia join the international coalition in support of Ukraine.

He also called on Serbia to cooperate in the process of gaining full membership of both countries in the EU.

“We are candidates for the EU membership and we are heading in the same direction, we see the same goal together,” said the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament.

That is why, according to him, Ukraine desperately needs a just peace, which is fully reflected in the peace formula of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, to which Ruslan Stefanchuk called on Serbia to join as a country that knows what war is and how hard it is to achieve peace.

In addition, he called on Serbia to join the creation of a special tribunal to condemn the crime of russian aggression as the initial one that has already led to 75,000 other crimes committed by russia in Ukraine.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also invited the Speaker of the Serbian Parliament to visit Ukraine to see the results of russian aggression with his own eyes.

“I just want to show you what russia has left in my country. And these are not pictures on the Internet or videos. What you will see in person – these horrific impressions will stay with you forever,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk.

For his part, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Vladimir Orlic, thanked for the invitation to visit Kyiv and assured his Ukrainian counterpart that Serbia fully supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

“This is very important and fundamental for us. We sincerely regret the terrible situation in your country, this terrible war, and we support you and constantly talk about it,” said Vladimir Orlic.

“Serbia has already joined the relevant resolutions in support of Ukraine within the UN and other international organisations,” the Serbian Parliament Speaker stressed.
