The First Vice Speaker Oleksandr Korniienko met with the Chairman of the Azerbaijan-Ukraine Interparliamentary Working Group Rufat Guliyev

The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko met with a delegation of the Milli Majlis Working Group on Azerbaijan-Ukraine Interparliamentary Relations headed by Rufat Guliyev.

The issues discussed included the restoration of Ukraine, the work of the parliamentary dimension of the International Crimean Platform, global security and the establishment of cooperation.

First of all, Oleksandr Korniienko expressed gratitude to the Republic of Azerbaijan for its consistent support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“Azerbaijan is already involved in the reconstruction of destroyed infrastructure facilities,” he said, adding that as part of the UNITED24 initiative of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, funds have been transferred for measures aimed at restoring Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure, a project to restore a park area and a school in Irpin has been funded and completed, and an amount of money has been allocated to restore a preschool and an outpatient clinic in Kyiv region: “We hope to continue these initiatives.”

At the same time, the First Deputy Speaker said that last year the First Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform was held, and this year a similar event is also planned. He therefore called on the Azerbaijani side to support and join the work of the parliamentary dimension of the International Crimean Platform.

In addition, the First Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine appealed to his colleagues to work together on the reform of the United Nations structures: “The current system of guaranteeing security in the world has failed – it needs to be urgently reformed to transform it into a system that would make military aggression and crimes impossible.”

“Cooperation through the friendship groups of the Parliaments of Ukraine and Azerbaijan will give a new impetus to the Ukrainian-Azerbaijani inter-parliamentary dialogue,” stressed Oleksandr Korniienko, noting that during the meeting the parties discussed the work of parliamentary delegations at international assemblies and cooperation between committees.

The meeting was also attended by the Co-Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Group on Interparliamentary Relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan Volodymyr Kreidenko, members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Group on Interparliamentary Relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan Serhii Lytvynenko and Anton Shvachko, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation Oleksandr Merezhko as well as the Secretary of the Parliamentary Group of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Interparliamentary Relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Chairman of the Board of the NGO “United Diaspora of Azerbaijanis of Ukraine” Hikmat Javadov.
