We are urging our partners to sanction russia's nuclear industry and to abandon russian nuclear fuel

Тhe United States imposed sanctions against rosatom's structures. In addition, the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, and France agreed at the G7 Summit to intensify efforts to isolate russia in the nuclear energy sector. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a Government session on 18 April.

"Sanctions against the aggressor are another topic that we constantly raise. We are urging our partners to introduce sanctions against russia's nuclear industry and to abandon russian nuclear fuel. We can see progress on this issue," the Prime Minister said.

Denys Shmyhal stressed that russia must be removed from the nuclear fuel supply chain. He thanked the partners, in particular Japan, which currently holds the G7 presidency, for the right step.

"At the same time, Ukraine is strengthening its energy independence. During our visit to Canada, the state-owned Energoatom company and the Canadian company CAMECO signed an agreement that became the final stage of the implementation of the programme for the use of Ukrainian uranium in the production of nuclear fuel for Ukrainian NPPs," the Prime Minister said.

As the Head of Government stressed, Ukraine had refused to purchase nuclear fuel from russia, and this agreement with Canada would provide Ukrainian NPPs with resources to continue their operation.
