Denys Shmyhal met with U.S. Secretaries of Transportation and Commerce

During a working visit to Washington, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. The parties discussed ways to strengthen Ukraine’s economic stability and to renew and tighten sanctions against russia.

In a discussion with Pete Buttigieg, the Prime Minister focused on the restoration of critical infrastructure, in particular logistics to the West. He stressed that Ukraine was working with partners to implement the concession mechanism and invited American private companies to join the restoration projects. He noted that the key principles of reconstruction were the barrier-free approach and the build back better principle.

During the dialogue with Gina Raimondo, Denys Shmyhal discussed in detail the strengthening of Ukraine’s economic capacity. In particular, programmes to support small and medium-sized businesses, the development of processing and logistics. The Prime Minister also called on the partners to impose strong sanctions on russia’s nuclear industry.

Denys Shmyhal expressed confidence that the United States would continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine in the fight for freedom and democratic values.
