The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia Robert Golob

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia Robert Golob.

Welcoming the Head of the Government of Slovenia in Ukraine, the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament stressed that this visit is a manifestation of solidarity and support for our people from the people of Slovenia.

In particular, military support is particularly important for our country, to which Slovenia has made a lot of efforts.

“Support for Ukraine’s defence capability is crucial for our victory. And Ukraine is grateful to Slovenia for its military assistance,” Ruslan Stefanchuk said.

He also emphasised Slovenia’s strong humanitarian support, especially the provision of shelter to Ukrainians, treatment and rehabilitation of our servicemen. He also noted the significant assistance in restoring Ukraine's energy sector after the brutal bombing by russia.

The parties also discussed the implementation of the peace formula of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi. The Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament called on Slovenia to support the peace initiative and participate in the establishment of justice as an axiom for ending this war.

“We want to find peace, but a just peace. And we are grateful for Slovenia’s joining the Core Group of countries to create a special tribunal for the crime of russian aggression against Ukraine. After receiving the arrest warrant for putin issued by the ICC, the issue of justice and international sentences becomes a matter of honour for the whole world. Therefore, the establishment of this tribunal will lay the foundation for the process of bringing the top political and military leadership of the russian federation to justice,” stressed Ruslan Stefanchuk.

The parties discussed in detail the sanctions pressure against russia. The Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament urged Slovenia not to reduce the strength of such pressure, as russia must suffer powerful economic consequences for the brutal war unleashed in the centre of Europe.

Ruslan Stefanchuk also suggested that Slovenia support a number of countries that have joined the adoption of important political decisions for Ukraine, such as the recognition of russia as a terrorist state and the recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-33 as genocide of the Ukrainian people.

The interlocutors also discussed the issue of Ukraine’s membership in the EU and NATO.

“We know for sure that Slovenia will support us in these areas, in particular, in Ukraine's efforts to open full-fledged negotiations on EU membership this year, as well as to receive a favourable response at the NATO Summit in Vilnius. For us today, these are important ideological things,” the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament called.

At the end of the conversation, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine conveyed an invitation to the Speaker of the National Assembly of Slovenia to participate in the II Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform this year in Prague.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Robert Golob, assured his Ukrainian counterpart of further sustainable and effective assistance to Ukraine from Slovenia.

“We must continue your military, humanitarian and financial support. And here, Slovenia is very proactive. We try to anticipate your needs and help as soon as possible. Slovenia does not make promises, but provides assistance,” Robert Golob stressed.

He noted that Slovenia is ready to join humanitarian projects, in particular in demining the territories of Ukraine, and to support Ukraine in important political initiatives.

“We can be a powerful ally in the political field, especially in advocating for Ukraine’s accession to the EU and cooperation with the ICC, because we support the establishment of a political tribunal. We have similar experience and we know how to take such steps and see things through,” the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia stressed.
