Prime Minister of Ukraine and World Bank Vice President discuss implementation of joint projects

Оn March 23, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde in Kyiv.

The Head of Ukrainian Government thanked the World Bank for the support provided to Ukraine.

“The World Bank has unequivocally confirmed its commitment to the principles of freedom and democracy, its readiness to help even in the face of challenges of war,” said Denys Shmyhal.

According to the Prime Minister, russia’s full-scale war continues to cause destruction and damage to Ukraine. According to the Head of Government, Ukraine’s economy shrank by about 30% last year. He thanked the World Bank for coordinating the development of an updated assessment of the damage and needs for the recovery of Ukraine.

“Ukraine’s recovery will undoubtedly be the largest business project on the European continent. I am confident that meetings in the format of the Multi-agency Donor Coordination Platform will also become an effective mechanism for future recovery and support in times of war,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed.

The parties also discussed budget support. The Prime Minister thanked the World Bank for the PEACE in Ukraine investment project, which had played a crucial role in Ukraine’s financial and macroeconomic stability. Denys Shmyhal and Anna Bjerde outlined the prospects for the continuation of this initiative.

The Prime Minister, among other things, noted the USD 50 million Heal Ukraine project in the healthcare sector and the RELINC project to restore essential logistics infrastructure, and expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation.
