Denys Shmyhal discusses support in defence and humanitarian spheres for Ukraine with the delegation of the Parliament's Foreign Policy Council
During a meeting in Kyiv, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and a delegation of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Folketing of Denmark headed by Michael Aastrup Jensen discussed support in the defence and humanitarian spheres, as well as in the reconstruction and restoration of justice.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine thanked the Danish Folketinget for concluding an agreement on the establishment of a Fund to support Ukraine totalling DKK 7 billion. He also highly appreciated Denmark's assistance in strengthening our defence capabilities, in particular, the formation of the ninth package of weapons and military equipment for Ukraine and joining the tank coalition.
"We are currently forming an air coalition. In particular, we are negotiating the transfer of F-16 aircraft to Ukraine, which can become an important part of the Ukrainian air defence system allowing us to intercept cruise missiles. I hope that Denmark will become a part of this coalition," the Head of the Ukrainian Government stressed.
According to Denys Shmyhal, Denmark was one of the first countries to support the initiative of patronage for the reconstruction of destroyed cities in Ukraine and established a partnership with the city of Mykolaiv. He noted a concrete result of this cooperation, namely the restoration of the water supply system in the city.
"The Ukraine Support Fund envisages support for business initiatives that will allow us to engage Danish companies in the reconstruction of Ukraine and cover the risks of their activities in our country," the Prime Minister added.
The Head of Government of Ukraine thanked Denmark for joining the circle of co-authors of the resolution on the implementation of the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine. Denys Shmyhal stressed that Ukraine would also like to see Denmark among the leaders in the area of "Restoring Justice". Specifically, it concerns the establishment of a Special International Tribunal and support for the International Criminal Court.
The delegation of the Folketing Foreign Policy Committee, for its part, confirmed that Denmark remained united in its support for Ukraine.
