Ukraine and Iceland strengthen cooperation in the energy sector
Ukraine and Iceland will step up cooperation in the energy sector, in sanctions policy against the aggressor, as well as in the establishment of a Special International Tribunal for russia.
These issues were raised today during a meeting between Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Prime Minister of Iceland Katrín Jakobsdóttir.
"The Prime Minister of Iceland and the President of Ukraine have signed a Joint Declaration defining the priority areas of cooperation. We discussed the implementation of its provisions. These include sanctions pressure on the aggressor, the establishment of a Special International Tribunal for russia, the return of deported Ukrainians, including children, as well as energy, humanitarian and social issues," said Denys Shmyhal.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine particularly emphasized the prospects for cooperation in the energy sector.
"We considered the possibilities of Iceland's assistance in restoring the Ukrainian energy sector. In particular, through the use of modern green technologies. We invite Icelandic companies to invest in the Ukrainian energy sector and in the Ukrainian economy in general," the Prime Minister said.
Prime Minister of Iceland, Katrín Jakobsdóttir, stressed the importance of holding the Council of Europe summit. Iceland currently presides over the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
"We are preparing the fourth summit in the history of the organization, which will take place in May. The central issue to be discussed is the war in Ukraine. In particular, we will consider the Peace Formula of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy," said the Prime Minister of Iceland.
