Ukraine is not only building NATO standards on the battlefield, but also ready to thoroughly reform the security sector

With the participation of the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko, a coordination meeting was held on the Parliamentary Track of the preparation for the NATO Summit in Vilnius and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, which will precede the Summit.

First of all, the participants discussed legislative plans for the period of preparation for the NATO Summit in Vilnius and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. “Ukraine, despite the full-scale invasion of russia, is not only building NATO standards on the battlefield, but is also ready to thoroughly reform the security sector to bring NATO standards closer to the level of legislation and its implementation,” the First Vice Speaker emphasized.

In particular, on September 30, 2022, Ukraine applied to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk and the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal signed the relevant document.

As Co-Chairman of the NATO-Ukraine Interparliamentary Council, Oleksandr Korniienko also initiated the intensification of the work of all structures and the process of inviting NATO PA members to Ukraine for a special visit on the eve of the event.

“Our membership in NATO is the only guarantee of security for Ukraine and the whole of Europe in the future after the end of this war,” emphasized the Head of the Permanent Delegation of Ukraine to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Yehor Chernev. He added that this is why everything should be done to bring this time closer as soon as possible: “We have to implement all the necessary reforms to get closer to NATO standards. These are the reforms that were discussed today and deadlines were set in order to have concrete results on our part and receive concrete proposals from the Alliance at the Vilnius Summit.”

“An important result of the NATO PA Spring Session in Luxembourg should be the adoption of a resolution containing clear messages in support of Ukraine’s integration into NATO, as well as the implementation of the peace formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi,” said the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis.
