The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the Parliamentary Delegation of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
At the beginning of the meeting, Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasized the importance for Ukraine of constant attention from the British, the Parliament and the Government of a great country.
“This is really very valuable for us because we clearly realize: Ukraine is fighting for the dominance of civilization in the world and is giving up the highest values for this – life, health, and future. And I would like to sincerely thank the British Parliament for its multi-party support of Ukraine since the beginning of this cruel and unprovoked war,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized.
He also called on his British colleagues to continue to maintain the coalition in support of Ukraine, in particular in the issue of legal consequences for russia for the war, the establishment of a special tribunal and the fair sentences for all the suffering it has brought to Ukrainian land.
In addition, the participants of the meeting focused on strengthening and deepening sanctions against russia, in particular, making it impossible for russia to circumvent them through other countries and confiscating russian assets in favor of Ukraine.
“We must make sure that the sanctions pressure on russia becomes a severe economic pain. putin and russia must pay for this war. And it is important for us, as parliamentarians, to find a legal formula that will allow us to confiscate the property of the country that unleashed the war,” the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament emphasized.
Ruslan Stefanchuk also called on his British colleagues to support Ukraine’s initiative to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-33 as genocide of the Ukrainian people, because 90 years later we are still being killed by the imperialist kremlin regime.
“This is important in the context of the historical connection between what happened then and what russia is doing now. The same people, the same methods, and the same terrible victims. And we must make russia bear historical responsibility for what it is doing to the Ukrainian people,” Ruslan Stefanchuk called.
He also thanked the UK for its strong military support for Ukraine, for making decisions that change the rules of the game and the course of history.
“We realize that this war can only be won with modern weapons. This is a universal formula for Ukraine’s victory, and you are outstanding supporters of our future victory in this formula,” the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament emphasized.
During the talks, the parties also discussed issues of global security and Ukraine's accession to NATO. According to Ruslan Stefanchuk, today the Armed Forces of Ukraine serves as a shield that prevents russia from further expansion to the west and will strengthen NATO forces with its unique experience and skills.
At the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine emphasized the importance of inter-parliamentary dialogue and called on his British colleagues to continue to maintain a high level of relations between the two parliaments, in particular to strengthen cooperation not only at the level of committees but also at the leadership level.
