Latvia supports the purchase of 1 million ammunition for Ukraine by the EU countries

At the beginning of the meeting, Olena Kondratiuk thanked Ms. Murniece for her consistent leadership in supporting Ukraine. The Vice Speaker also reminded that Latvia’s powerful military assistance to our Armed Forces has already exceeded 300 million euros.

In addition, the parties discussed the upcoming NATO Summit 2023 to be held in July in Vilnius, following which Ukraine expects a clear and affirmative response from the Alliance on Ukraine’s accession to NATO under the fast-track procedure.

“I appealed to the Minister of Defense of Latvia to support Estonia's initiative and appeal to the EU countries to jointly allocate 4 billion euros for the purchase of 1 million rounds of ammunition for Ukraine. Ms. Inara emphasized that Ukraine can count on Latvia’s support in this matter,” noted the Vice Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament.

For her part, Inara Murniece assured Olena Kondratiuk that “Latvia will be at the forefront of advocating for military support and offensive weapons for Ukraine”, realizing “that we need to act quickly and make the best decisions”.
