One of the priorities of the Parliament’s work in the next six months is to bring Ukraine closer to NATO standards

“We are focused on Ukraine’s accession to NATO and the adoption of a number of draft laws that will bring us closer to NATO standards. This is one of the priorities of the Parliament’s work for the next six months,” the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko emphasized during the national telethon “UA together”.

“The Ukrainian army on the battlefield is already close to NATO – in terms of weapons, approaches to work, military, tactical and operational thinking,” said Oleksandr Korniienko, adding that many more steps should be taken at the level of law – and the Parliament of Ukraine is ready to implement them – in particular, in terms of army support, public control, counterintelligence activities, etc.

He also noted that this rapprochement should be quite intense, as an important event will take place this year – the Vilnius Summit in early June: “We would like NATO to give clearer and more precise guarantees for Ukraine’s further accession.”

Oleksandr Korniienko emphasized that “it is clear that it is too early to talk about this during the war, but immediately after the war is over, Ukraine will intensify this path.”

In addition, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine noted that this requires doing homework: “We have strengthened the National Security, Defense and Intelligence Committee with professional colleagues. We do everything in full contact with the President of Ukraine as the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the Office of the President of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.”

“This is a great complex work that the Verkhovna Rada will continue,” Oleksandr Korniienko concluded, emphasizing that Ukraine is now an outpost that protects Europe from “the terrible russian imperial view of life.”
