After our victory we will tell each other – we have gone through the war and won

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the government delegation of the Republic of Latvia headed by the Minister of Defence of Latvia Inara Murniece.

The Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament sincerely thanked his former colleague for the steady support in the post of Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia and reminded that Latvia is one of the countries that have been at the forefront of helping Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale aggression of russia.

“Our Latvian friends and the Latvian Parliament have always been leaders in the adoption of very important decisions for Ukraine.  And I hope that the same support will continue from your Parliament and Government,” Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasized.

During the meeting the parties raised a number of important issues for further cooperation. In particular, the Chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine invited his Latvian colleagues to support the “peace formula” of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, which will be soon discussed at the international level.

In addition, the participants of the meeting highlighted the important issue of consolidating international support and creating mechanisms to bring russia to justice for crimes in Ukraine.

Also, Ruslan Stefanchuk once again thanked the Latvian people and the Latvian authorities for the military assistance to Ukraine, where Latvia is among the world leaders in terms of its provision in relation to GDP. In addition, the parties discussed the possibilities of further cooperation in this area, training of Ukrainian military to NATO standards and rehabilitation of our military.

In conclusion, the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament expressed hope for deepening partnership and interparliamentary relations between the two countries after Ukraine’s victory.

“After our victory we will tell each other: we have gone through the war and won. And we will always remember those friends who helped us in the most difficult moments. I am grateful to Latvia for the support!” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed.

In response, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Latvia Inara Murniece assured her Ukrainian colleagues that the support of Latvia would continue until the victory of Ukraine.

“Our political cooperation is key. As well as cooperation at the level of relevant parliamentary committees, ministries of defense, which continues and is successful. The front line in Ukraine is our “line of defense” and that is why I am here,” Inara Murniece said.

She stressed that her new position provides more opportunities to help Ukraine in this difficult war, and she will do everything in her power to consolidate Western opinion on strengthening support for Ukraine, in particular military support.

“For us, it is clear that only the victory of Ukraine and the defeat of russia can bring lasting peace to Europe. In all dimensions of assistance to Ukraine, Latvia is either campaigning or walking together with our allies. And I also very much want to see Ukraine in the EU and NATO. This is our common goal,” Inara Murniece emphasized during the meeting.
