Olena Kondratiuk met with NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security Irene Fellin

Ukraine expects NATO to increase the supply of modern weapons, ammunition and air defence systems to protect civilians, especially women and children, from russia’s terrorist attacks.

This was emphasized by the Vice Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Olena Kondratiuk during a meeting in Brussels with Irene Fellin, the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security.

“It is also important to block russia’s ability to produce weapons and replenish weapons stocks as much as possible. With the help of Western allies, it is necessary to deploy an air defense system in Ukraine that would allow Ukrainians and their children to live, work and study in Ukraine, and not to seek refuge abroad. Our life, health and psychological state directly depend on how many modern air defence systems we have to protect the Ukrainian sky,” Olena Kondratiuk said.

In this context, one of the main tasks for the Euro-Atlantic community should be to support the creation of a special international tribunal for the crime of russian aggression, as well as the confiscation of russian assets and the introduction of a mechanism of compensation to Ukraine for the damage caused, said the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.

Olena Kondratiuk also appealed to the Special Representative of the NATO Secretary General to consider the possibility of organizing a special international mission to ensure access to Ukrainian prisoners, many of whom are women.

At the same time, Irene Fellin stated that NATO supports Ukraine in its struggle against russian aggression. The Alliance will make efforts to investigate russia’s war crimes without waiting for the end of hostilities. This includes sexual crimes. The sides also discussed the importance of psychological support for victims of russian war crimes.
