The Presidents of Ukraine and Moldova Honored the Memory of the Chornobyl Liquidators

 

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of Moldova Maia Sandu honored the memory of the liquidators of the accident at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

The heads of state placed memorial candles at the monument to the Heroes of Chornobyl, located at the plant near the power unit where the explosion occurred in 1986.

Also taking part in the ceremony were Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Odile Renaud-Basso, government officials, diplomats, plant workers, and liquidators, as well as representatives of foreign delegations participating in the Chornobyl International Conference on Nuclear Safety and Recovery.

Those present honored the memory of the Chornobyl liquidators with a moment of silence.
