A deep night in the Libyan desert — the northeastern part of the Sahara. A tent with a stretched roof, yet without front and rear walls. It was here, far from any settlements and illuminated by the bright light of a lamp, that our first meeting with the Leader of the Libyan Jamahiriya, Muammar Gaddafi, took place.
To reach this meeting, we spent twenty days traveling across Libya by planes and vehicles. The time and location kept changing; meetings were postponed. At that time, some of the world’s most powerful intelligence services were pursuing the Leader, making security considerations paramount.
