Slovenia’s Independence Day: History, Diplomacy and Shared Values

On 25 June, Slovenia celebrates its Independence Day — a landmark date in modern European history that symbolizes the restoration of freedom, the affirmation of democratic choice, and the formation of a young state that today plays an important role in Central Europe and the Balkans.

Slovenian embassies around the world hold diplomatic receptions, cultural presentations, film screenings and exhibitions of archival photographs dedicated to the country’s path to independence. This year in Ukraine, an official diplomatic reception was held on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the declaration of independence of the Republic of Slovenia. The Embassy of Slovenia in Ukraine hosted representatives of the diplomatic corps, the Ukrainian government, the business community, Members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and the media in the banquet hall of the Fairmont Grand Hotel Kyiv.
