Ruslan Stefanchuk discussed a just peace for Ukraine with the President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Belgium

Within the framework of the Fourth Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Belgium, Vincent Blondel.

During the talks, parties discussed peace efforts and the US-proposed vision of the war's end. Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed that Ukraine’s position remains unchanged: peace must be just — with no recognition of russian occupation, no restrictions on Ukraine’s defence capabilities, and no veto on Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic course. He underlined that Ukraine is ready for substantive diplomacy, while russia consistently demonstrates the opposite.

Special attention was given to the issue of frozen russian assets. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada emphasized that the parliaments of democratic states must play a key role in establishing effective legal mechanisms that would allow these funds to be directed toward Ukraine’s recovery. This is a matter of justice, accountability of the aggressor, and trust in international law.

Ruslan Stefanchuk also raised the issue of forcibly deported Ukrainian children and urged the Belgian Senate to highlight this matter in international forums in order to increase pressure on russia and contribute to the return of the children home.

He thanked Belgium for its unwavering solidarity and support for Ukraine in its war against the russian aggressor — in particular, for the Senate’s resolution in support of Ukraine, for significant defence assistance already exceeding EUR 2.27 billion, and for the intention to allocate an additional EUR 1 billion to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capability in 2025. The contribution of Belgium to the PURL and SAFE initiatives was also noted.
