The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is grateful to the Parliament of Moldova for extending temporary protection for Ukrainians until 2025

The Deputy Chairwoman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk met with the Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova Doina Gherman during her official visit to the Republic of Moldova.

On behalf of the Parliament of Ukraine, Olena Kondratiuk thanked the Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova for extending temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens until 1 March 2025.  Moldova has hosted more than 116,000 Ukrainians who sought refuge from the war.

The Vice-Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament also asked her colleague to take under her personal patronage the issue of advocating for the development and consideration in Parliament of a resolution condemning the forced deportation of Ukrainian children.

During a personal meeting, Olena Kondratiuk agreed with the Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova, Igor Grosu, to consider such a document.

She also told her Moldovan colleague that russian shelling had intensified in Ukraine and the humanitarian situation had deteriorated.

"This has a very negative impact on the emotional and psychological state of children. That is why it is important for us to use the possibilities of parliamentary diplomacy to organise recreation and psychological rehabilitation for our children in Moldova. We want them to have some rest and peace without any alarms and explosions," said Olena Kondratiuk and stressed that she was counting on the help of the Parliament of Moldova and the Vice-Speaker Doina German in this humanitarian matter.

In addition, the Vice-Speakers met with Ukrainian women who, together with their children, have taken refuge in Moldova to escape the war. Mostly, these are women from Bakhmut, Irpin, Kherson, Odesa, and Mykolaiv regions.

"Thanks to our international partners, UN Women, they received small grants to start their own small businesses in Moldova. Most of the women I spoke to today are eager to return to Ukraine and continue their business in their homeland," said Olena Kondratiuk after the meeting.
