We hope that U.S. assistance to Ukraine for 2024 will be unblocked

Ukraine expects that the United States will continue to stand by us in the fight against the russian aggressor. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal following a meeting with U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen.

“We expect that assistance to our country for 2024 will be unblocked, including direct financial support. This will become another pillar of our resilience,” said Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Minister noted that since the beginning of the full-scale war, the United States had committed almost USD 45 billion in defence spending. Ukraine has received 55 military support packages and about USD 22.9 billion in grants.

“Ukraine is grateful for the leadership of the United States in consultations with the G7 countries on the confiscation of frozen russian assets. We expect Congress to pass legislation and give the U.S. government the authority to confiscate them in order to help Ukraine,” the Prime Minister said.

During the meeting, Denys Shmyhal and Janet Yellen also discussed the need to strengthen sanctions against russia.

The Prime Minister also outlined the reforms that Ukraine was implementing on its way to joining the EU and NATO.

Denys Shmyhal expressed his sincere gratitude to the Secretary of the Treasury for her unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine in its fight for democratic values and principles.
