Together with its partners, Ukraine is building institutional and financial infrastructure to support long-term, scalable investments: Oleksandr Korniienko
First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko opened the international conference «Ukraine Recovery: From URC-2025 to Action» — the fourth forum on the recovery of the Zhytomyr region, which took place in Lisbon and was organised by the embassies of Ukraine and Estonia in Portugal with the assistance of the Portuguese side.
During the event, participants discussed the most effective ways to support the economic recovery of our country, Ukraine's current needs, and identified practical opportunities for relevant intergovernmental cooperation.
Oleksandr Korniienko expressed his gratitude to our country's partners from Estonia and Portugal for their numerous initiatives aimed at Ukraine's recovery.
«Several reconstruction projects have already been implemented in partnership with EU countries, particularly in the Zhytomyr region, the Kyiv region, and in the east of our country — educational institutions, hospitals, and energy facilities. We highly appreciate every contribution in this area,» said the First Deputy Speaker.
In his speech, he emphasised that Ukraine and its partners have many opportunities to expand mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly in building a powerful defence-industrial complex. To this end, it is necessary to strengthen relevant cooperation with partners.
According to Oleksandr Korniienko, current estimates show that the damage caused by russian aggression against our country over the past three years amounts to more than $500 billion, and this figure is growing every day. «We can only overcome this challenge together. Our European partners, development finance institutions and private investors play an important role. Together, we are building the institutional and financial infrastructure to support long-term, scalable investments in Ukraine,» he said, inviting others to join these efforts.
The First Deputy Speaker also expressed the opinion that the country's recovery begins with communities. According to him, given the importance of a strategic view of the country's development, it is local communities that best know their daily needs. «Today, Ukrainian communities have urgent needs for housing, social services, and the restoration of the local economy and infrastructure. International cooperation is an important driver of community transformation,» he said, stressing that supporting Ukraine's recovery and reconstruction in wartime is also a way to increase its own resilience.
In conclusion, the First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to the organisers of the Conference, who created an opportunity to continue the dialogue on the recovery of the state, which is important for Ukraine.
