Yulia Svyrydenko and Robert Fico discuss energy security, defence, infrastructure, education and sanctions policy in Košice
Ukraine and Slovakia have concluded intergovernmental consultations in Košice. The Prime Ministers of Ukraine and the Slovak Republic – Yulia Svyrydenko and Robert Fico – discussed energy security, defence, infrastructure, education, and sanctions policy.
Ministerial-level discussions were also held by sectors: defence, energy, recovery, European integration, agriculture, international cooperation, education and science, and border infrastructure.
Yulia Svyrydenko reported that during the visit, the parties signed four agreements:
- on cooperation in the field of labour migration;
- on financial and technical assistance;
- protocol on border crossings (launch of the pedestrian and bicycle crossing “Uzhhorod – Vyšné Nemecké” by the end of this year and increase in the cargo capacity of the “Malyi Bereznyi – Ubľa” checkpoint to 5 tonnes);
- on the establishment of diplomatic missions.
All agreements were enshrined in the Roadmap 2.0 on joint actions of the two governments.
In addition, according to Yulia Svyrydenko, Slovakia will support the protection of the Ukrainian energy system and projects to create shelters in schools in frontline regions.
In 2026, the first bilingual Ukrainian school will open in Bratislava. “This will allow our children, who were forced to leave because of the war, to study in a Ukrainian environment and maintain a connection with their homeland,” noted the Prime Minister of Ukraine.
They also discussed coordination on the 19th sanctions package against russia.
Yulia Svyrydenko expressed gratitude to Robert Fico and the Government of Slovakia for their constructive approach. It was agreed that the next round of consultations will be held in Ukraine.
