The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, summed up his working visit to Ottawa, where the G7 Parliamentary Summit took place. The summit became a key international platform for discussing global security, challenges to democracy and support for Ukraine in its confrontation with russian aggression.
During the event, Ruslan Stefanchuk held a series of bilateral meetings with the speakers of the parliaments of Canada, the United States, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, and the President of the European Parliament. The main topics of discussion were: strengthening defence support for Ukraine, sanctions pressure on russia, the use of frozen russian assets for reconstruction, and Ukraine's further movement towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Particular attention was paid to the issue of returning Ukrainian children whom russia had illegally taken from the temporarily occupied territories.
The final document of the G7 Parliamentary Summit condemned russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine and confirmed Ukraine's readiness for a just and lasting peace. The participants also supported the provisions of the Joint Statement of the G7 Foreign Ministers of 14 March 2025, which confirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine in defending its territorial integrity, right to exist, freedom, sovereignty and independence.
In this way, the parliaments of the G7 countries have once again confirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation and strengthening the parliamentary dimension of the G7 with Ukraine.
‘For Ukraine, this is an extremely important signal of unity. Unity that makes us stronger in the fight against the aggressor, brings us closer to a just peace and strengthens confidence in international law,’ Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasised.
