Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with Piero Fassino, Rapporteur of the PACE Committee

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk thanked Piero Fassino, Rapporteur of the PACE Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy, for his visit to Ukraine, calling it a powerful gesture of solidarity. «This gesture means more than words,» the Speaker emphasized.

During their meeting, the parties discussed the political consequences of russia’s aggression and Ukraine’s expectations for the upcoming PACE report. «This report should be more than a document — it must serve as a roadmap for the entire Council of Europe on how to respond to the greatest threat to peace in Europe since World War II,» Ruslan Stefanchuk stated.

He outlined Ukraine’s key positions: no compromises on sovereignty and territorial integrity, the need for political and institutional support for establishing a Special Tribunal and a compensation mechanism, and the recognition of today’s russia as a terrorist state at the political level. He also stressed that Ukraine’s integration into the EU and NATO is a security guarantee for the entire European continent.

The Chairman reaffirmed Ukraine’s full openness to continued cooperation with PACE and expressed the parliament’s readiness to support the preparation of the report by providing information and involving relevant committees in consultations.
