Ukraine's European Integration: Oleksandr Korniienko held a meeting with delegation of the European Commission
First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held a meeting with delegation from the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission. The parties discussed key issues on Ukraine’s path toward European integration, particularly the fulfilment of obligations under the Ukraine Facility.
Oleksandr Korniienko thanked the European Union, through its representatives, for supporting Ukraine on its path toward European integration, for the consistent financial assistance — particularly through the Ukraine Facility instrument — and expressed readiness for open dialogue on key draft laws necessary for implementing the Ukraine Facility and fulfilling the conditions of the EU accession negotiation process.
He emphasised in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine mechanisms have already been developed that enable more active planning and adoption of legislative initiatives identified as part of the European integration process. He also noted the importance of cooperation with European partners in working on such initiatives. The key role of parliamentary committees was highlighted in advancing judicial, economic, and agrarian reforms necessary for progress in the EU integration process.
In addition, the First Vice-Speaker stressed that the new Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko, has experience in European integration since 2016, which will help ensure systematic and consistent implementation of European integration reforms.
Among the tasks, Oleksandr Korniienko stressed the need for legislative changes, in particular regarding the division of powers between central and local authorities, which is still not systematically regulated.
«Ukraine is always open to dialogue and ready to take further steps towards full membership in the European Union,» emphasised Oleksandr Korniienko.
The meeting was also attended by the Chair of the Committee on Legal Policy Denys Maslov, the Chair of the Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy Oleksandr Haidu, the Chair of the Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services Andrii Herus, the Chair of the Committee on Economic Development Dmytro Natalukha, and the Chair of the Subcommittee on Administrative-Territorial Structure and Local Self-Government of the Committee on State Power Organization, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning Vitalii Bezghin.
